You know those moments in motherhood when your child says something so casually that your brain needs a minute to catch up?
Yeah. This was one of those moments.
Yesterday, I went to take a bath. I have a little cup that I keep in the bathroom to rinse the tub before and after I use it. Nothing fancy, just part of my normal routine.
Except when I went to use it, I noticed there was already liquid sitting in the bottom.
So, naturally, I dumped it out.
And that’s when I realized it was PEE.
Let me repeat that. PEE.
Apparently, my oldest son had used my bathtub the night before and, at some point, decided he needed to pee. Rather than getting out and using the toilet, he apparently handled his business right there in the tub.
Okay. Gross, but let’s move on.
When I confronted him about it, his response was:
“Oh, sorry. I forgot to rinse it this time.”
…
THIS TIME?!
Excuse me, sir. Let’s back this entire conversation up.
Did you just casually imply that this has happened before? That there have been other occasions when you’ve used the bathtub as a bathroom, then rinsed out the cup afterward and gone about your day like nothing happened?
And here’s where it gets even worse.
That SAME CUP is the cup I use to rinse the bathtub, AND HIS LITTLE BROTHER USES IT TO RINSE HIS HAIR!
Let that sink in for a minute.
So not only was I unknowingly using a cup that apparently had a history I wasn’t aware of, but his little brother has been using this very same cup during bath time to rinse shampoo out of his hair.
I honestly don’t even have the words.
When I confronted him, I was trying to process the fact that there was pee in the cup. But now I’m stuck on the fact that his response suggests this might not have been a first-time occurrence.
How many times has this happened? How long has this been going on? And why am I just now finding out that there’s apparently a bathtub-peeing-and-rinsing routine happening in my house?
And let’s talk about the wording again.
“Forgot to rinse it THIS TIME.”
Not “I didn’t know what to do.”
Not “It was an accident.”
Not even “I’ve never done that before.”
THIS TIME.
Motherhood really does keep you humble. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, one of your children casually introduces a whole new level of household nonsense.
I wanted to take a relaxing bath. Instead, I got a mystery liquid, an unexpected confession, and the realization that the little cup used to rinse my youngest child’s hair may have been involved in something I absolutely did not sign up for.
The cup has officially been retired. Immediately.
And apparently, I need to start inspecting my bathtub accessories before using them.
Because at this point, I don’t know what else is going on in my own bathroom.
I forgot to rinse it THIS TIME.
I can’t make this stuff up.
Send help. And definitely send a new cup. 😂
